HINDI (पाठ - छोटा जादूगर) का पाठवाचन, कठिन शब्दार्थ-वाक्यप्रयोग, श्रुतलेखन और प्रश्नोत्तर आशय स्पष्टीकरण करते हुए गद्यांशावबोधन विधा सीखी। गतिविधि के रूप में कविता का छात्रों ने चित्रांकन कर स्वरचित काव्यपंक्तियों की रचना की। पाठ के माध्यम से गरीब किंतु स्वाभिमानी और परिश्रमी नन्हें जादूगर की संघर्षपूर्ण जीवनयात्रा के माध्यम से छात्रों को जीवन मूल्यों से परिचित कराया गया। व्याकरण भाग में समाचारपत्र से चित्र लेकर संज्ञाशब्दों का परिचय, पहचान अर्थ और प्रयोग बताते हुए वाक्यप्रयोग द्वारा भाषा में प्रयोग व महत्ता को समझाया । विशेषतः मातृदिवस के अवसर पर माँ के प्रति प्रेम व श्रद्धाभाव को मार्मिक कविताओं , विभिन्न गतिविधियों और प्रस्तुतियों के माध्यम से छात्रों ने माँ की महिमा और माँ की जीवन में भूमिका और महत्व पर स्वरचित काव्यपंक्तियँ लिखकर एवं पोस्टर बनाकर अपनी भावनाएं व्यक्त की। ENGLISH The prior knowledge of usage of Punctuation was checked as a class discussion. Post which the students strengthened their understanding of the Punctuation Marks and its usage by attempting various exercises and group discussion in class. They also revised the topics in class for their Unit test. After the complete session on Punctuation, students showcased their knowledge of this concept by creating colourful posters which depicted the Punctuation and the usage with few examples. Students enthusiastically participated in the first round of Spell Bee Wizard competition. MATH Students continued to strengthen their understanding of the Number systems. They challenged themselves by finding the equivalent of Indian and International place value of numbers. They learnt rounding of numbers to 10s, 100s and 1000s and estimation of numbers. Students grasped the idea that estimation is approximation of numbers which is done by rounding off numbers. They were assessed on their understanding of the complete concept of Number Systems in a class test. This work was peer assessed by the students themselves. SCIENCE Students visited the Science Lab to understand the Musculo-Skeletal system with the help of the 'Skeleton' and the models of the muscles . Related videos added to their understanding of these two body systems. Students revised these science concepts and undertook their Science unit test. As part of their project work, students were divided into groups and given topics related to Food – Components of food, balanced diet, food – an important aspect of health, and diseases. Prior to starting the project work, students were taught the skill of research and presentation. Students used books and internet to research and find out information. This was later presented in the class. They were assessed on the basis of their team work, content of research and presentation skill and marked on a rubric (an assessment tool). SOCIAL SCIENCE During the Social Science lessons, students learnt about the story of Vasco Da Gama and the sea route taken by Vasco Da Gama during the circle time class activity. A video on British Raj Establishment and Revolt of 1857 was shown in class while teaching the ‘Struggle for Independence’. Students learnt about the location of the cities where the revolt started by marking them on the Map. Students were introduced to the social reformers of India and the difference between Extremists and Moderates. To understand why it is important to use the product made from our country and how our ancestors fought for it students understood about the "Swadeshi Movement". Students’ prior knowledge was tested about Mahatma Gandhi and they were introduced to movements started by Gandhiji. The Rowlatt Act and Satyagraha Movement, Jallianwala Bagh Massacre were explained in class through a PowerPoint presentation. Students also came to know about the Non-Cooperation Movement & Civil Disobedience Movement, The Simon Commission and the Demand for Purna Swaraj and the factors that lead to the Quit India Movement. SPANISH The students learnt Definite Articles through a PowerPoint presentation. After discussing the basic rules, students applied them by drawing parts of the body and adding the correct articles for each of the nouns. After learning the verb “Ser” to be, the verb” Llamarse” to be called and practiced them by applying what they have learnt in the book exercises and PPT. They also wrote their and their dad's physical description. The topic - 'Family' was done in the class, ending it with designing a Family Tree. FRENCH After the initial introduction of the language, children became comfortable using basic salutations in and outside the classroom. Students were able to name parts of the body, described themselves and also talked about their family. Introduction of the verb “être” (to be) was done with examples. Students were taught to make an Identity Card, where they pasted their passport size picture and wrote the physical descriptions by applying their learning. An activity was done in the classroom where the students drew human body and labelled the parts of the body in French. GERMAN After having fun in Calendar Making Activity, children thoroughly enjoyed watching the PPT about the German culture. They were thrilled to know about Oktoberfest, cars etc in Germany. Students also enjoyed watching Finger Family song and another one about different colours in German. The reinforcement of their understanding of the family members and colours was done by making a Family Tree in the class and a wall hanging, which will be completed by the students during holidays. ICT The students explored the flexible feature of MS -Word of presenting the data in the tabular form consisting of rows and columns. They created the school meal menu taking different days and food items for the month of May. They also actively participated in the discussion sharing the difference between the healthy and junk food and prepared its table in MS-Word. They also learned about - Splitting and Merging cells, applying borders and shading, and Calculations in table. VISUAL ART On the occasion of Mother's Day, students made posters in their Art lessons. .They used oil pastels as a medium to draw the figure of heart. Each student gave their special touch to the drawing, by expressing their love for their mothers through their creativity. In their pottery class, they made heart shaped lockets with clay. These were decorated with colourful dry glitter. Students also created a bunch of flowers made with clay all the while focussing on the technique of Relief Work. LIFE SKILLS This month saw a continuation of their previous month's activity "Have you filled your bucket today?". Post the workshop conducted by our school Counsellor, students understood that it is important to recognize and appreciate our peers for their kindness. Each student enthusiastically went around filled their friends bucket by writing a note to them and thanking them for their kindness towards each other teaching them the art of Appreciation, Kindness and Empathy. INDIAN MUSIC Students continued to explore different rhythms and practiced singing सरगम in different patterns to improve their singing. They practiced वंदना based on raag Yaman. Students continued to strengthen their knowledge and classification about Indian classical instruments like तानपुरा, स्वरतरंग, हारमोनियम, मरकस, तबला and tried their hand at playing all these instruments. WESTERN MUSIC Children learnt a song “Hey Mama” for Mother's day and created a school band for Mother’s Day assembly . They showcased their talent in the Special Assembly on the eve of Mother's Day. Students enjoyed the song especially dedicated to mothers everywhere. In their regular lessons, vocal warm-up, breathing and controlling exercises were done to improve their voice quality. DANCE Students explored different dimensions of kinesthetic movements with the support of instrumental music. Different variations of movements were taught through improvisational practice. PERFORMING ARTS On the occasion of Mother's Day, the context of Mother-Child relationship was taken up in the drama session. Students were given the situation when they miss their mom and are not able to contact her. They presented the act with focus on dialogues, expression and voice modulation. They were also given some tips to understand the character and situation. PHYSICAL EDUCATION Students continued to enhance their skills and techniques learnt in the game of Squash. They were made to understand the basic rules of the game and the markings on the squash court. The focus was to make sure that everybody is able to grip the racket properly and are able to make contact with the ball. They were also introduced to the court movement used in a game of squash. They were taught about forehand drives and service. They were made to make rallies with the teacher.

ENGLISH Students built upon their previous knowledge of the concepts they already knew in Grammar. They delved deeper and were familiarised with various kinds of nouns and pronouns. All types of nouns like abstract, collective and gender were introduced through a tuning in game. The learning of the concepts were consolidated through book exercises and follow up practice work in the notebook. This concept further led to the introduction of Pronouns. Taking forward the basic knowledge students got familiar with various types of pronouns with emphasis on identification and application. Activities using songs and team games enabled the strengthening of the concept along with practice exercises in the notebook and workbook. In Literature, students made connections with the concept of mythology and shared some tales from Indian Mythology. It was taken forward by referring to the comprehension worksheet which was about Greek myth. The students further associated to it through story narration and discussion of the chapter - The Flight of Icarus. The language aspect of this context was revised through comprehension questions, glossary, spellathon and new vocabulary. Mathematics In their Math lessons, students were grouped and they shared what they already knew about Indian and International Place value system. This was later shared with their peers. Taking cue from there, the facilitator introduced them to the differences between Indian and International Place Value systems. Finding the equivalent in these two number systems, comparing & ordering of big numbers was a challenging task for the students. Rounding off numbers was done through number line and poem which made it easy for them to round off numbers while estimating. Student’s understanding of Number Systems was assessed through a class test. They utilized their understanding of number systems to add big numbers. Science Students learnt about bones and joints by performing various exercises. They visited the Science lab to learn about the skeletal system with the help of the skeleton model. Students enjoyed solving the skeleton puzzle by putting the cut-outs together to form the skeletal model. They also visited the science lab to understand the muscular system with the help of the muscular system model from the science lab. Their understanding was strengthened further when they watched a video of the musculo-skeletal system and how it works. The culmination of this was done by way of answering questions in their notebooks. Social Science Students understood the concept of migration and its types i.e. immigration and emigration. They were able to analyse the causes for emigration and immigration. An engaging fun activity was done to explain the factors influencing Migration in which students were divided in 3 different groups and were asked to collect the data from teachers by asking them if they have migrated ever and the factors/reasons for that migration. The data/information collected by students was collated and discussed in class along with push and pull factors influencing migration. हिंदी कक्षा पाँचवीं के छात्रों ने अप्रैल माह के पहले दिन स्वपरिचय और विद्यालय के अनुशासनात्मक अनिवार्य गुणों व नियमों के विषय में जानकारियाँ प्राप्त की। राष्ट्रगान, प्रारूपलेखन , १ से ५० तक हिंदी में संख्यांक और संख्याशब्द लेखन सीखा । वर्णवृक्ष नामक गतिविधि के द्वारा स्वर-व्यंजनवर्णों का ध्वनितंत्र के माध्यम से परिचय प्राप्त किया। द्वित्वाक्षर , पंचमाक्षर ,संयुक्ताक्षर और रेफपदेन को वर्णविच्छेद द्वारा वर्तनी ज्ञान प्राप्त किया ।(कविता-सुमन एक उपवन के) का कवितापाठवाचन, कठिन शब्दार्थ-वाक्यप्रयोग, आशय स्पष्टीकरण , श्रुतलेखन और प्रश्नोत्तर करते हुए पद्यांशावबोधन विधा सीखी। गतिविधि के द्वारा प्रकृति के उपादानों का महत्व चित्रावली में संजोया । स्वरचित कवितालेखन विधा के द्वारा प्रकृति चित्रण किया।पर्यावरण सुरक्षा और जल जीवन पर नारे लेखन , कविता लेखन करते हुए छात्रों ने पृथ्वी दिवस का आयोजन किया। जिसमें नन्हें छात्रों का प्रयास अत्यधिक गुणवत्तापूर्ण और प्रशंसनीय रहा। French After the initial introduction, the students were able to introduce themselves and use simple greetings as a first communication in the French language. They were also able to identify the numbers along with days of the week and months of the year. An audio visual video was played to make them “écoutez et répétez” (listen and repeat) the pronunciation of the above. They enjoyed the creative task of making the French Flag in class. German The beginning of the session was quite interesting for the children.The introduction to the language was done through a video on greetings and the alphabet song. The students are well versed with the basic introduction in German language. They were excited about the creative task of making the German Flag. They are thorough with the numbers (0-31), days of the week and months, the reinforcement of which will be done by a calendar making activity. They will also be introduced to German culture in the month of May 2019. ICT In chapter 3 –Managing Files and Folders, the students explored several features of Windows, managing files and folders, moving or copying them from one location to another, deleting and restoring them back or searching them when their location is not known. They also got hands on experience of windows Explorer. Western Music Students were introduced to dynamic symbols in music. They understood how the symbols are interpreted and implemented. They were explained the twelve notes in western music and notes value with clapping and fun ways. Indian Music Grade V learnt about classical musical instruments and vocal practices to improve their singing voice. They attempted Saraswati vandan based on raag . They were acquainted with the classification of Indian musical instruments like Tanpora, Harmonium, Swartarang and Tabla. Art and Pottery Students were introduced to art materials and the techniques of using them, They learnt how to draw a human face. On the occasion of Earth Day ,they enthusiastically made posters thus integrating the lesson with the social and environmental cause. Drama In the introductory class, students were acquainted with acting skill and its various forms. A discussion was held about the Nau Ras in acting. The emphasis was laid on speech and the moods. The following classes were focused on Situational Acting making student more confident while expressing their thoughts through acting. Physical Education Students were introduced to the sport of Squash. They were introduced made to the basic rules and the markings on the squash court. The objective of the lesson was to make sure that everyone is able to grasp the racket properly and work on their grip. The next step was to make contact with the ball. They also learnt the nuances of the court movement to be followed in the game of squash. Life Skills In this lesson , the School Counsellor introduced herself as a facilitator who is there to help / guide the students related to time management, behavioural issues among other things. Under the theme Me and Myself , students worked on creating positive self-image. A case study was presented to them post which students got into a group discussion to understand building positive self-image. Some strategies were shared to deal with anxiety, anger, fear and how to relax our body & mind in difficult situations. There were sessions on “Have You Filled a Bucket Today? and “A Guide to Daily Happiness" organised for the students. This was taken from a book by Carol McCloud, where children are encouraged to express kindness and love. The author uses the metaphor of how every individual is born with an invisible bucket, which represents their emotional health (or happiness quotient). This session teaches the students and everyone how just by saying kind words to others, not only can we fill their buckets, but we will fill our own as well. Students develop sense of gratitude towards everyone around them. This session also was to teach the students to learn to think positive and spread positive vibe around and cultivating healthy atmosphere.
