ENGLISH ‘Changing Times’ chapter in Literature enabled the students to understand that ideas can be expressed through poetry. The theme of the poem gave them an opportunity to compare the different times and make predictions about future too. Students learnt about the elements of poetry and tried their hand at writing a poem. As part of grammar topics, students learnt subject verb agreement, adjectives, adjectival phrases and types of verbs (non finite & finite). The previous knowledge of prefixes and suffixes helped students to form more words and add on to their vocabulary. Students also attempted the workbook exercises to understand its usage. HINDI (पाठ - रक्त की कहानी ) का पाठवाचन, कठिन शब्दार्थ और अच्छे स्वास्थ्य के लिए जीवन में खानपान के सही खाद्यवस्तुओं की उपयोगिता का छात्रों से परिचय कराया गया । आशयस्पष्टीकरण करते हुए गद्यांशावबोधन विधा सिखाई गई । गतिविधि के रूप में छात्रों के समक्ष विज्ञान की अध्यापिका के द्वारा प्लाज्मा , हीमोग्लोबीन , रक्त कोशिकाओं , श्वेतकोशिकाओं और विभिन्न खनिज़ पदार्थों की प्रायोगिक जानकारी प्रदान की गई । पुन: अगले दिन छात्र विभिन्न प्रकार का भोजन लाए। उस भोजन से प्राप्त विटामिन्स और विभिन्न खनिज़ पदार्थों पर चर्चा छात्रों से की गई । छात्रों ने व्याकरण में अनेकार्थक शब्द और रचनात्मक लेखन के विभिन्न बिन्दुओं जैसे- स्लोगनलेखन , अनुच्छेदलेखन और अनौपचारिक-पत्रलेखन का अभ्यास किया । MATH Students learnt that while we calculate numbers with multiple operations we have to follow a particular order. Students had fun in understanding this concept through a game of numbers. This concept was further strengthened by practicing sums in their notebook. They also attempted word problems using multiple operations and solved them using the BODMAS rule. The next concept that they learnt was Multiples & Factors. Students prior knowledge was assessed through a quiz in class. They were able to relate to the multiples and factors in the times tables. Practice sums in notebook reinforced their understanding of the concept. Prime and Composite numbers, Test of Divisibility were few other topics that were discussed and practiced in class to grasp this concept. SOCIAL SCIENCE The month of September saw students learning about ‘Temperate Grasslands’ through a group discussion. They researched to find out about agriculture, climate, vegetation and wildlife of Temperate Grasslands. They shared their findings with their peer group. As the next topic, they learned about United Nations. They discussed about 2 World wars and how the different organs of United Nations work. They correlated the working of different organs of UN with the current situation around the world through News and Internet. SCIENCE ‘A Healthy Outside Starts from Healthy Inside.’ Keeping the above objective in mind and sync with the theme of the month ‘Food’, grade V students were involved in an array of activities. The lesson was started with an introductory activity ‘What’s in the tiffin’? The students explored their lunch boxes, discussed the ingredients of various food items and realised the importance of eating healthy for staying healthy. To enhance their visual-spatial skills, ‘Comic Strip Making’ activity was held wherein they focused on taking balanced diet highlighting five basic nutrients. To understand the importance of maintaining hygiene for preventing communicable diseases ‘Sparkle Handshake’ activity was held. The students realised how germs spread through contact with the infected person. Ms Renu Malik, the infirmary in-charge, was invited as a guest speaker in the class to throw light on the importance of timely vaccination. The students brought a xerox of their vaccination card, analysed it and understood the importance of maintaining immunization record. To commemorate ‘World Peace Day’ on Sep 21, an ‘Article Writing’ activity was held in the class on the theme ‘Food for Peace’. The students brainstormed on various topics like ‘How Peace Begins with Them’, ‘How Peace is related to Food’ and what all steps can lead to sustainable development goals like ‘People-Planet-Profit’ and ‘Zero Hunger’. The students wrote thought-provoking articles. They also pledged to share food and spread awareness for ‘From My Plate to Yours’. ROBOTICS UNIT TOPIC: DAREDEVIL ROLLER COASTER FUN - RUN A MARBLE Activity 1: Students explored about energy and how can we use it and classified different types of energy that we use in our surroundings. They explored about potential and kinetic energy and their differences as well. They explored how change in energy affects the speed of motion of the roller coaster by designing and building a Marble run. This was done to negotiate the track exactly in 10 seconds and to observe the various factors that affect the movement of the marble on the track. ICT Students have learned to represent the step-by-step process of a program by algorithms and flowcharts. Algorithm and flowcharts helps to clarify all the steps for solving the problem. Using an algorithm the students have described a step-by-step analysis of the process, while by using a flowchart they have solved day to day real life problems explaining the steps of a program in a graphical way. SANSKRIT व्याकरणपाठः- अव्ययशब्दों को तालिका से चुनकर वाक्यों में प्रयोग केआर अभ्यास किया । पुरुष और वचनम् अनुसार वाक्यों को स्पष्ट करते हुए अनुवाद का अभ्यास कराया गया । शब्दरूपों , धातुरूपों का प्रयोग उदाहरणों व नियमों सहित कराते हुए अनुवाद का लिखित अभ्यास कराते हुए अर्धवार्षिक परीक्षा की तैयारी गई । FRENCH In sync with the theme of the month for September ‘Food’, students learnt about different vocabulary related to food and beverage of France. They were also assessed on their Speaking skills through an oral assessment and a written assessment on the topics done so far. SPANISH During this month the students learned how are call the four means of the day as well vocabulary of food. Also learnt the complete conjugation of the verbs “comer” to eat, “beber” to drink and “tomar” to take and the related question answers on the topic. The class enjoyed a PPT on Spain and Latin America dishes, followed with a discussion about the ingredients and the food culture of different countries. GERMAN Students enjoyed the September month’s theme ‘Food’ through a video presentation on ‘How to order food in a restaurant’. They learnt the basic vocabulary related to food. Students learnt conjugation of verbs related to topic - to eat, to drink, to take and would like to. They enjoyed making a collage on famous food and drinks of Germany as part of home assignment which added to their repertoire of German vocabulary. Students were assessed on their Speaking skills in German by reading a passage and by giving basic introduction of themselves. Students were assessed on their knowledge of all lessons learnt in German language in a written assessment. Western Music During this month, the song taught was - ' This is our world oh oh.' Some warm up exercises were done in C major scale (in guitar). The students practiced playing the G major progression chords. INDIAN MUSIC In the month of September students learnt the prayer song “ Hamko Man ki Shakti”, “Hum Balak hai tere”. The instruments played along were a orchestra of Harmonium, Tabla, Tanpura , Markas, Swartarang. The Vocal warm up began with sargam in different scales. DANCE Students learnt basics of Kathak dance form. They learnt how to emote different gestures, posture, mood through body language and facial expressions. They also learnt tatkaar (basic footwork), Hastak (basic hand-movements ) of kathak. Apart from that they have learnt the choreography for Teachers Day special assembly performance on the song “school ke din and bam bam bole”. SPORTS The students worked on the understanding of the forehand grip of the raquet win the game between the opponents. In swimming , the students are learning sitting and diving from edge, swimming in lanes, kicking with kickboard, head up breathing and back kicking. SPECIAL ASSEMBLIES The students conducted a special assembly on the occasion of International Day of Democracy.They presented a power packed dance performance in the Teacher's Day assembly.
